At the beginning of February, Stratford Chess Club received the disappointing announcement that the lease on Foundation House which is leased by Stratford Town Trust from a private landlord will be withdrawn as the owner wishes to submit a planning application for residential properties on the site as part of the canal quarter redevelopment zone.
As such, we have been told that we cannot hire individual rooms after 23rd May 2023 and all users have been asked to move out of Foundation House by 21st June.
The committee took the decision to see out the remaining LDCL season at Foundation House while looking for a suitable alternative venue.
I’m pleased to inform members that a venue has been found at Stratford upon Avon Methodist Church sited on the corner of Trinity Close and College Lane and directly opposite Holy Trinity Church.
From Tuesday 2nd May onwards, Stratford Chess Club will meet on Tuesday evenings at 19.30 at Stratford upon Avon Methodist Church.
The Club has the use of two function rooms, for both social and competitive chess. Along with tables and chairs suitable for chess. The entrance is controlled by an entrance buzzer similar to the arrangement at Foundation House where team captains and committee members are given direct access via a key code number.
There is a car park at the front of the building and plenty of free (after 18.00) street parking in the surrounding area.
Further details will be posted in due course and the website will also be updated with directions to the new venue.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please contact me directly.
We are always looking to welcome new players to the club no matter what your ability.
